Channel 4’s 999: What Happened Next returns at 10.05pm with a first episode that examines two knotty criminal incidents in Suffolk and Hertfordshire.

In Suffolk, police probe an incident in which a man fatally stabbed a suspected thief outside his house. In Hertfordshire, a car belonging to a woman who had been reported for drug dealing was found on fire.

The episode uses footage and interviews with officers and victims to unravel details of stalking, lies and a lead that points back to someone under a protection order, with the programme noting that nothing is straightforward.

This is the first instalment of the new run; the listings also include ITV1’s Killer in the House at 9pm, which features, the reviewer writes, first-time interviews with the Howell children and suggests the truth "seems" still to be emerging.
