Chelsea agree personal terms with Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet
Goal reports Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet as they pursue a January move for the 20-year-old centre-back.
Fabrizio Romano claims the Blues accelerated their interest over the weekend and are now in pole position, with Jacquet also linked to Liverpool. Rennes are reportedly holding out for a club-record £56 million fee — which would eclipse the £52m they received for Jeremy Doku in 2023 — and Chelsea's offer is said to be lower than that asking price.
The outlet says Jacquet is expected to be a Chelsea player before the transfer window closes as the club look to back new head coach Liam Rosenior.
Rosenior, who succeeded Enzo Maresca earlier this month, has overseen a 5-1 FA Cup win over Charlton, a 3-2 Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg loss to Arsenal and a 2-0 league victory over Brentford that ended a five-game Premier League winless run; Chelsea are now two points behind Liverpool in fourth and host Pafos in the Champions League in midweek.
