Chelsea host £40m signing Quenda at Cobham ahead of summer move
Geovany Quenda, the 18-year-old Portuguese prospect, is not due to join Chelsea until the summer of 2026 after a £40 million move from Sporting, but he has already been training at the club’s Cobham base to familiarise himself with his future surroundings. Quenda is recovering from a fractured metatarsal and, rather than finish his rehabilitation in Lisbon, has been invited to use Cobham’s facilities.
The transfer has been signed off and is set to be completed in July, after pre-contract terms were agreed in March 2025. He is not expected to remain in England for long; the plan is for him to return to action in March after an injury sustained during a December clash with Benfica.
That timing could see him available for Sporting’s Champions League last-16 fixtures and their domestic title push, while other injured Chelsea-owned players are completing recoveries with their loan clubs, such as Emanuel Emegha at Strasbourg and Dastan Satpaev at FC Kairat.
