Chelsea lose wonderkid George Jobling to Tottenham after successful trial
Tottenham have continued their domestic recruitment by signing former Chelsea defender George Jobling following a successful trial that impressed Spurs coaches. The 16-year-old, who has captained England’s Under-16s, was not offered a scholarship by Chelsea and has joined without a compensation fee.
Jobling has already featured for Tottenham’s Under-16s in a Premier League Cup fixture against Manchester City. He had been a regular for Chelsea’s U16 and U17 teams this season and now prepares to transition into full-time professional football on the other side of the London divide.
He will initially link up with Jamie Carr’s U18 squad, a side that has recorded 10 wins from 24 league games and needs defensive reinforcement. The club expects him to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 later this year, and he is set to be Tottenham’s sole representative for England’s Under-16s in fixtures against Denmark, Spain and France this week.
