Chelsea, Nike relaunch 1990s tangerine 'Return of the Rebel' kit for West Ham
Chelsea have teamed up with Nike to launch a new leisurewear collection inspired by their infamous 1994–96 away kit, with the 'Return of the Rebel' range arriving on Thursday. The original tangerine and graphite shirt divided opinion when it was released just over three decades ago and reached its zenith as Chelsea returned to Europe in the 1994–95 Cup Winners' Cup after a 23-year exile, the side going on to reach the semi-finals.
Nike and Chelsea have re-imagined the jersey, which is set to make its on-pitch debut ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixture against West Ham and the Women’s FA Cup match against Manchester United next month. Chelsea legend Dennis Wise modelled the new kit. The Return of the Rebel collection features '1990s hues' across t-shirts, tops, jackets, track pants, sweatshirts and outerwear, with period club crests and lettering.
It is available at the Megastore at Stamford Bridge and via the club’s online store in men’s, women’s and kids’ sizes and celebrates "risk, rebellion and reinvention – then and now." Off the pitch, Liam Rosenior has won five of his six matches in charge after replacing Enzo Maresca, including a 3-2 win at Napoli; Rosenior told TNT Sports the players had "lost a manager that they really respected" and praised their response under his leadership.
