Chinese National Sentenced to 46 Months for Laundering $36.9M in Crypto Scam
Beincrypto reports a US federal judge on Tuesday sentenced 45-year-old Chinese national Jingliang Su to 46 months in prison for laundering more than $36.9 million tied to a crypto investment scam. According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Su was part of an international network that defrauded 174 US victims using unsolicited social media messages, calls, texts and online dating platforms.
Prosecutors said the co-conspirators used fake websites resembling legitimate trading platforms to persuade victims to transfer funds, which were moved from US bank accounts into a single account at Deltec Bank in the Bahamas, converted into Tether (USDT) and sent to digital wallets controlled in Cambodia.
"New investment opportunities may sound intriguing, but they have a dark side: attracting criminals who, in this case, stole then laundered tens of millions of dollars from their victims," First Assistant United States Attorney Bill Essayli said. Su has been in federal custody since December 2024 and pleaded guilty in June 2025 to one count of conspiracy to operate an illegal money transmitting business.
