Time spoke with American snowboarder Chloe Kim in December as she prepares for the Milano Cortina Olympics; her Olympic halfpipe final is scheduled for Feb. 12.

Since winning her second Olympic gold in Beijing, Kim has won back-to-back X Games gold medals in 2024 and 2025 and the 2025 World Championship, her third world title. She said she took a mental-health break and went to intensive therapy after Beijing, describing a period of depression and work on unresolved trauma, boundaries and relationships. Kim also described personal details: she owns an Arabian chestnut horse, a nine-year-old dog, and a ball python named Jelly Bean; she flew a red-eye from Los Angeles to Cleveland to surprise her boyfriend, Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett, then flew back the next morning to continue preparing—"I sleep really well on planes," she said. Last season she landed a double cork in competition for the first time.

Kim said she is focusing on feeling satisfied with her riding rather than only on winning. She plans to stay with family in Italy, Garrett is planning to attend, and she says she has a few new tricks she will not share; the results and how she will feel afterward remain to be seen.
