With dad-content doing well on streaming, many major movie stars have pursued projects aimed at that audience. Chris Pine, whose big-screen Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit performed too poorly at the box office to justify a sequel, has shifted toward smaller-scale films and is now seeing renewed interest for The Contractor on streaming.

Pine broke out in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot, which made more than $385 million worldwide and spawned two sequels. He later had a major role in Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman and became part of the so‑called "Hollywood Chrises," but unlike Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Chris Pratt he has largely taken a detour into quieter projects, with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves the only recent big‑budget IP.

Directed by Tarik Saleh in his English-language debut, The Contractor was released day-and-date in limited theaters and on streaming in 2022 and issued as an Amazon Original in international markets.
