Chris Redd discusses dating Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife after Instagram video

According to People, 40-year-old Chris Redd posted a lengthy video to Instagram on Tuesday, Jan. 6, in which he addressed dating his former Saturday Night Live co-star Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife, Christina Evangeline.

Redd said his New Year’s resolution was to lead with more vulnerability and that he wanted to address a relationship that had been discussed for “about four, five years.” He said there “wasn't no plan,” that he is not the type to scheme or pursue a friend’s former partner, and that he and Thompson were “all cool” until the situation became public. Redd also said he experienced pill problems while on SNL, credited Evangeline with supporting his therapy journey, and said the two fell in love; Thompson and Evangeline married in 2011 and share two daughters, and Thompson filed for divorce in June 2022.

Redd said he does not feel like a player and acknowledged the decision “made me look terrible,” adding, “I did choose love” as he wiped away tears. He said he and Thompson discussed the relationship and mutually agreed to keep it private while they continued to work together for about a year before it became public; Redd announced his exit from SNL in September 2022.

He also reflected on being punched outside The Comedy Cellar in New York City in October 2022 and being taken to a hospital, saying the incident felt “fair enough.” Reps for Saturday Night Live did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
