Chrissy Teigen says she's 52 days sober after 'falling off the wagon'
Chrissy Teigen revealed on Instagram Tuesday that she is re-entering her sobriety journey after going back to drinking and feeling like "s—t," thanking Carl Radke for discussing his own sobriety on her "Self-Conscious" podcast and crediting him with changing her perspective. Teigen, 40, said she had been sober for a little over a year before she went back to drinking, promising herself it would be in a "mindful" way so she could have a glass of wine on a date night with husband John Legend or toast on birthdays.
In hindsight she said tying drinking to rewards was dangerous. She described how the drinking quietly escalated — from evenings to afternoons and then to 11 a.m. — and began affecting small parts of her life. Though it wasn't "the kind of drinking where you slur your words," Teigen wrote she missed simple things like grabbing her keys for a last‑minute grocery run and realized, "oh f—k, here we go again." Being asked to appear on Netflix's "Star Search" was a wakeup call, she said, because she knew she wouldn't do the show with alcohol in her dressing room.
Teigen contrasted her current sobriety with the first time she gave it up, calling the first round "exciting" but saying this time there is less pomp and she fears others have lost faith; she added she is "52 days sober again with no desire to turn back." Teigen has been open about her struggles with alcohol since 2017, publicly began her sobriety journey in December 2020 and acknowledged a relapse in May 2025.
