Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey: Release, Cast, and Plot
Movieweb reports Christopher Nolan wrote and directed The Odyssey, an action-adventure adaptation slated to hit theaters on July 17, 2026. Production began in February 2025 with filming in Morocco, Italy, Greece, Iceland and other locations, principal photography wrapped in August 2025, and the film has been touted as the first blockbuster shot entirely in IMAX.
The ensemble cast features Matt Damon as Odysseus, Zendaya as Athena, Tom Holland as Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope, with Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal and many others in supporting roles. Several castings remain unconfirmed, and rumors—such as who Lupita Nyong'o will portray—and the inclusion of Travis Scott have generated controversy.
Nolan penned the screenplay as an adaptation of Homer's epic, reportedly drawing on Emily Wilson's translation.
