Christopher Sabat says he rarely stopped to reflect on voicing Vegeta. He hadn't even heard of Dragon Ball before being cast, and until relatively recently English-dub actors didn’t receive much recognition. Sabat, who has voiced Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha, All Might and Kuwabara, says he only fully grasped the dub's impact years after Dragon Ball Z ended and shared three moments when it hit him.

The first came when Dragon Ball Z returned after a long pause and he watched the premiere — “that was a really cool moment.” Another early shock was his first San Diego Comic-Con, when Funimation's small booth was overwhelmed, lines spilled into neighboring space and the fire marshal nearly intervened.

At the time he still felt like “the English-language option of a DVD” and hadn’t yet embraced being Vegeta. A convention in Australia left a stronger impression. Fans there went berserk as the cast arrived, an excitement Sabat compared to The Beatles, and it made him realize how passionate people were about the show.
