Chrome’s vertical tabs arrive in Canary, a simpler way to manage tabs — Latest news

Google is adding vertical tabs to Chrome, and the feature is already available in the Canary build. Vertical tabs aim to make it easier to manage a growing number of open tabs by keeping them organized and visible, though Canary is not considered stable enough for daily work.

Vertical tabs make it much easier to see which tab is which, reducing confusion when you keep a large number of tabs open. They also tidy the browser interface and free up screen real estate. Once enabled, you can drag and drop tabs, create and customize tab groups, and minimize the vertical strip to a cleaner sidebar.

To try them now, install Chrome Canary and enable the flag at chrome://flags, then restart the browser. Move the tab bar from the top to the side via Settings > Appearance > Tab Strip Position and select Side. Canary won’t interfere with an existing Chrome installation, but it can be unstable; general availability should arrive within the next couple of months.
