Citi, Angi, Meta and others among companies cutting staff in 2026
Businessinsider reports that a growing list of companies are cutting staff in 2026, including Citi, Angi, T-Mobile, Meta, and dozens of others. Angi said it is cutting around 350 jobs, attributing the move in part to "AI-driven efficiency improvements," and told investors in an SEC filing the reductions would save about $70 million to $80 million a year while costing $22 million to $30 million.
Citi said it will continue to reduce head count this year as part of a plan to cut its workforce by 10%, or about 20,000 employees; "These changes reflect adjustments we're making to ensure our staffing levels, locations and expertise align with current business needs," a spokesperson for Citi said.
The Reality Labs unit at Meta is preparing layoffs, three people familiar with the matter told the outlet, with two employees saying teams working on VR headsets and Horizon Worlds will be disproportionately affected. The New York Times reported roughly 10% to 15% of the division's 15,000 employees could be laid off, with announcements possible as soon as this week; Meta's CTO and Reality Labs chief described an upcoming division meeting as the "most important" of the year and urged employees to attend in person.
