This coming Thursday Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the favorite to win Game of the Year at the DICE Awards in Las Vegas, but the awards season is only half over. The three most significant industry-voted prizes — DICE, the Game Developers Choice Awards and the BAFTA Games Awards — remain, and a full sweep of the Big Five would still require wins at the Golden Joysticks, The Game Awards, DICE, GDC and BAFTA.

Those five ceremonies have very different voting bodies: the Golden Joystick Ultimate Game of the Year is fan-voted; The Game Awards uses a global jury of critics, media and a few influencers; DICE is decided by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences; the Game Developers Choice Awards are voted on by industry creatives and trade journalists; and BAFTA assembles expert juries.

To sweep them all, a title needs to win over industry peers, critics and the public. Such consensus is rare. Since The Game Awards era began in 2014, only one game — Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2023 — has claimed all five.
