Claire Danes names 2-year-old daughter Shay on Amy Poehler podcast

Claire Danes revealed her third child’s name, Shay, on the Good Hang podcast Tuesday. The 2-year-old, whom she and husband Hugh Dancy welcomed in the summer of 2023, is named Shay, Danes said.

On the episode with Amy Poehler, Danes called the toddler 'really fun' and said she loves watching toddlers dance, describing Shay’s 'head-swaying' movement and adding, 'That’s fabulous.' She is also the mother of sons Cyrus, 13, and Rowan, 7.

Danes mentioned the onesies she has embroidered for each child and admitted she has an unfinished one for Shay, saying, 'I'm actually confessing to you. It's by my bed, half-done,' and noting that Shay no longer wears onesies.

The actress recounted the 'meltdown' she had when she learned she was pregnant at 44, describing 'convulsive tears.' She said Rowan was conceived via two rounds of in vitro fertilization and recalled a friend who dreamt she was pregnant in Danes’s body. Danes debuted a baby bump in January 2023 and confirmed her daughter's arrival six months later. She later described the 'shame' she felt at the time on the SmartLess podcast in November 2025, saying, 'I was going outside of the parameters a little bit... Like I was naughty. I'd been caught fornicating past the point I was meant to.'

Danes shared Shay's name more than two years after giving birth and acknowledged the unfinished embroidered onesie for her daughter — it remains unclear when she will finish it.
