Beincrypto reports that Peter Steinberger, creator of the open-source AI assistant ClawdBot, has publicly rejected any association with crypto after scammers hijacked his online identity to promote fake token projects.

Steinberger says the problem began after the project was rebranded as Moltbot following trademark concerns raised by Anthropic. He acknowledged operational errors during the rename that let bad actors seize his former X and GitHub handles, which were then used to promote meme-coin token schemes falsely claiming his involvement. "Any project that lists me as a coin owner is a SCAM. No, I will not accept fees. You are actively damaging the project," he wrote, and added that he has never issued tokens, does not endorse any crypto initiative, and will not accept deployment or endorsement fees.

Harassment has persisted, Steinberger said, including persistent messages urging him to claim token deployment fees, account squatting, Discord and Telegram spam, and a confirmed takeover of his original GitHub account, for which he publicly appealed for help. Community reaction has been mixed, some users have changed domains to avoid targeting, and the episode has highlighted security concerns around always-on open-source AI tools and their collision with meme-coin culture.
