People reports that Arielle Gilinsky said she was sitting with family in the back of the temple after viewing her father's body when Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone" began playing from a playlist she had made for the after-party; the funeral took place on Nov. 5.

She said the unexpected music lightened the mood: family members who had been crying laughed, an aunt noted that her dad loved the song, and a video that has gone viral on TikTok shows Arielle, friends and her partner laughing as the techno track blared. Arielle described her father as a "big time party animal" who ran nightclubs in the early '90s and as the "cool mom" from Mean Girls, and said he would not have wanted a stuffy funeral.

Arielle said she found the mishap "funny" and that they "couldn't hold their laughter," adding the moment felt "very cathartic" despite not having spoken with her father for a few years; she said the whole funeral was filled with tears and laughter.
