Colin Firth Joins Apple TV's Berlin Noir Murder Mystery
Oscar winner Colin Firth has been cast in a new Apple TV murder mystery adapted from Philip Kerr's Berlin Noir saga, specifically the prequel novel Metropolis, which follows a young detective in 1920s Berlin.
The project reunites Firth with screenwriter Peter Straughan; the pair previously collaborated on the 2011 spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Firth will play Paul Lohser, described as "a brilliant but prickly" detective who is "meticulous, anti-social, and well-educated." He and newly promoted officer Bernie Gunther, played by Jack Lowden, are tasked with catching a serial killer for the Berlin Murder Squad amid rising political tensions during the Weimar Republic.
If the adaptation proves similarly popular, it has been suggested Apple may find a fitting successor to Slow Horses on its slate.
