Collider ranks 10 horror movies that are unintentionally hilarious
Collider published a ranking on Jan. 28, 2026 in which senior list writer Brad LaCour names the 10 worst horror movies that are unintentionally hilarious, arguing these films found longer lives by making audiences laugh rather than frighten.
At the top of LaCour’s list is Plan 9 From Outer Space, Ed Wood’s 1957 black-and-white cult staple, praised as a “bad masterpiece” for its shoddy visuals, hard-to-follow plot and legendary B-movie charm.
LaCour puts Silent Night, Deadly Night: Part II at No. 2 for its meme-worthy use of footage from the first film, and ranks Birdemic: Shock and Terror at No. 3, noting its low-budget effects, animated birds and subsequent sequels.
The list also includes Troll 2, The Happening (which LaCour notes had an estimated $48 million budget and detached performances), Manos: The Hands of Fate, Chopping Mall, Maximum Overdrive (Stephen King’s sole directorial outing), the 2006 Wicker Man remake starring Nicolas Cage, and Night of the Lepus, each described with the specific flaws and cult appeal that make them unintentionally funny.
LaCour writes that these misfit horror films have endured through midnight screenings, cult followings and marathon viewings, where their unintended comedy is the chief source of continued entertainment.
