Conte criticises Ruben Amorim as Hojlund flourishes at Napoli
Goal reports Antonio Conte has criticised sacked Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s handling of Rasmus Hojlund, calling it "arrogant" and accusing the Portuguese boss of failing to "adapt" his methods to the striker’s qualities.
Hojlund has scored nine goals in all competitions since moving to Napoli, with six in 16 Serie A appearances, two in five Champions League games and one in the Supercoppa Italiana. The Denmark international had struggled for consistency under Amorim at United, scoring 10 goals in 52 appearances in 2024-25, and was told he was surplus to requirements last summer despite wanting to stay and fight for his place.
Amorim was dismissed by United at the start of January after a reported breakdown in relations with the club hierarchy, with Michael Carrick named caretaker manager. Conte made his remarks speaking ahead of Napoli’s home match against Sassuolo as Napoli, Hojlund and Conte try to keep pace with Serie A leaders Inter Milan; United will prepare for Saturday’s derby against Manchester City under Carrick, who described his appointment as a "fresh start."
