Napoli manager Antonio Conte has claimed he has "transformed" Scott McTominay into a "complete player" since the Scotland international left Manchester United for Napoli in the summer of 2024, a move that preceded McTominay being named Serie A Player of the Year last season after helping Napoli to the Scudetto.

McTominay, who had been associated with Manchester United since the age of five, scored 13 times in 36 Serie A appearances in his debut campaign as Conte's side won the title. Conte also praised former United team-mate Rasmus Hojlund, who joined Napoli on loan last summer after a difficult spell at Old Trafford and has gone on to score nine goals in all competitions.

The striker’s loan includes an option to make the transfer permanent, and Hojlund has been said to "already consider himself a Napoli player." Speaking to TNT Sports, Conte said: "In this year and a half, (McTominay) became a complete player... we worked with him on the build-up and construction, and I tried (with) difficulty also to transform him into a complete player.

He now plays with (Stanislav) Lobotka as two midfielders, and he has improved a lot in the build-up... It’s the same for Rasmus Hojlund. In six months, we have worked a lot with him. He is only 22 years old; Scott is 29...
