Court halts direct Asus and Acer gaming PC sales in Germany — Pcgamer

A Munich court ruling has paused direct sales of Acer and Asus gaming laptops and desktops in Germany. The decision is the latest development in a patent suit filed last year by Nokia against those two companies and Chinese electronics firm Hisense. Nokia alleges Acer and Asus PCs—and Hisense smart TVs—infringe three patents tied to the H.265 (HEVC) video codec standard (via Juve Patent).

Hisense sought to settle in January and, following a license agreement, Nokia withdrew its lawsuit against that company; Acer and Asus are still fighting the case in court. Nokia has also been in the headlines for 4G projects that shoot for the moon—literally. Asus announced an 'immediate internal review' of its 800-series motherboards after 'recent reports concerning Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs.' Some PC gamers allege installing a Ryzen 7 9800X3D into an AM5 socket motherboard has caused a range of problems, up to and including the death of the CPU itself.
