Courtney Love skips Sundance premiere of documentary Antiheroine; fans not surprised
Courtney Love did not attend the Sundance premiere of her new documentary Antiheroine late Tuesday night in Park City, festival director Eugene Hernandez told roughly 1,000 people in attendance.
Scribe Allen Salkin, who was on the scene, wrote that many fans had expected Love but that there was more quiet shock than loud groans — noting the documentary itself portrays Love as consistently inconsistent.
The film had been made with Love's full cooperation and input, but Salkin reported it was clear the producers and marketers did not want to explain her absence.
During the post-screening Q&A no audience questions were taken, despite the usual practice. Salkin said he asked a publicist why Love was not there and the publicist replied, 'Because she's not here.' When asked, 'Is that it?' the publicist answered, 'Yes that's it.'
Hernandez invited the crowd to appear in a video he said he'd send Love, and many in the audience shouted 'We love you Courtneys!' and made heart-shaped gestures. The screening was said to be the last premiere at the Eccles Theatre before Sundance relocates to Boulder.
There was no further explanation given at the screening for why Love missed the premiere, and sources at the event declined to elaborate on her absence.
