Customer says barman barred them at Ramsgate Wetherspoon’s under Covid rule
A customer said a barman barred them at the Royal Victoria Pavilion, the large Wetherspoon’s on Ramsgate beach, during the Covid "rule of six."
The writer described the pavilion as a renovated, turn-of-the-last-century building that became a Wetherspoon’s in 2017 after a period of decline; they said it had been an object of affection, calling it "perfect" and describing outdoor tables on the beach, a green leather banquette and a grand central staircase.
They said the incident happened when they arrived with their own children and were meeting another family of four, making seven people; the barman insisted households had to sit on separate tables, and after attempts to rearrange the group the barman told them, "You're barred." The writer said they were a longtime fan of the pub and initially did not know whether the ban was temporary or permanent.
The writer concluded that the barman's decision was final, saying there was "no process, no second chances, no appeal," and added that they were only barred for one night.
