Dan and Eugene Levy lead Schitt's Creek tributes after Catherine O'Hara’s death
CAA confirmed Friday that Catherine O’Hara, best known for playing Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, died at age 71 at her Los Angeles home "following a brief illness," and her co-stars led emotional tributes. Dan Levy, who created the show and played his on-screen son David, wrote on Instagram, "What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O'Hara's brilliance for all those years," and called her "extended family." He said he will "cherish every funny memory" and that his heart went out to O'Hara's husband of 33 years, Bo Welch, sons Matthew and Luke, and the rest of her family.
Eugene Levy, who played O'Hara's husband Johnny on the sitcom, told Page Six, "Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today. I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O'Hara for over fifty years," and recalled their beginnings on the Second City stage, SCTV, collaborations with Christopher Guest and six years on Schitt's Creek.
Other cast members also mourned. Jennifer Robertson told Page Six she was "deeply saddened" and called working with O'Hara a "beautiful, magical gift," while Sarah Levy posted that "this one cuts deep" and paid tribute to what O'Hara brought to the world. O'Hara starred on Schitt's Creek for all six seasons from 2015 to 2020; the cast swept the Emmys in 2020 and won at the Golden Globes in 2021.
Page Six reported the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at O'Hara's house at 4:48 a.m.
