Daniel Radcliffe on the Reggie Dinkins pilot: "Sorry, Viola Davis"
Created by Tina Fey and starring Tracy Morgan, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins follows a former NFL star who tries to reshape the public narrative after a gambling scandal by making a documentary about his life. Reggie recruits Arthur Tobin, an Oscar-winning director played by Daniel Radcliffe, but Tobin’s credibility was damaged after an on-set “meltdown” that left him blacklisted in Hollywood.
Radcliffe said he laughed through the early scripts and felt honored to join Fey’s ensemble. He singled out Tobin’s viral breakdown — filmed in front of a blue screen strewn with visual-effects tennis balls meant to represent characters, robots and actual tennis balls — as one of his favorite jokes, noting it followed Tobin being hired for a Marvel movie only to suffer a “total on-set breakdown.” Erika Alexander highlighted the bit where Tobin snaps at a tennis ball slated to become a robot voiced by Viola Davis.
Radcliffe said Tina Fey changed the name in the script and added, “So sorry, Viola Davis.
