Daniel Radcliffe on Returning to Broadway in ‘Every Brilliant Thing’
Daniel Radcliffe, 36, is returning to Broadway in Every Brilliant Thing, an interactive solo monologue that offers a message of hope. He had planned a break after spending two years on Merrily We Roll Along, which earned him a Tony in 2024, and he has a toddler, a new TV show and a writing project.
The 85-minute play, a meditation on gratitude, grief, coping and connection, began as a short monologue by Duncan Macmillan and was expanded with Jonny Donahoe. It has been staged in 66 countries and 44 languages, with performers ranging from Phoebe Waller-Bridge to Minnie Driver.
Radcliffe has not seen the show and wants his own interpretation, though he has read the script’s 73 footnotes; he will perform at the Hudson Theater, its largest venue to date, with previews beginning Feb. 21. Radcliffe said the role felt perilous and appealing because it is genuinely scary: he is the only cast member while the piece relies on voluntary audience participation, requiring improvisation and role-playing with strangers eight times a week.
