Dark Horse to publish Kyoshi Warriors miniseries centered on Suki
Polygon reports Dark Horse Comics, in collaboration with Avatar Studios and Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, will publish Avatar: The Last Airbender — Kyoshi Warriors, a new comic series that spotlights Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors.
The series features cover art by Danielle Weires, is written by Brandon Hoáng, illustrated by BellBessa and Xanthe Bouma, colored by Adele Matera and lettered by Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt. It follows Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors as they leave their island to join the war against the Fire Nation and encounter suspicion and resentment from mainlanders while struggling to prove themselves to the Earth Kingdom; an opportunity that could raise their esteem emerges, though whether they will rise to the challenge remains to be seen.
From the comic's description, the story appears set during season 2, when Aang and Team Avatar are traveling to the Earth Kingdom; whether Aang, Sokka, Katara and Toph will appear is a mystery, and the focus on Suki suggests any appearance may be limited. The story will be told across three monthly single-issue comics, with the first arriving in May this year; each 22-page issue will be priced at $4.99.
