According to Goal, former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher said players should "embrace the challenge" of criticism from club legends after a series of comments directed at Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim.

While Gary Neville appeared to single Amorim out most often, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt accused the coach of betraying the club's attacking principles and Wayne Rooney has also criticised him. Fletcher, who made 342 appearances for United, said he had no issue with his former team-mates having their say, calling them "passionate guys" who are "good to listen to" and recalling that he used to "sit and listen to them and take it all in."

Fletcher stressed the importance of winning football games and trophies and praised the Old Trafford support as "amazing in recent years." He warned that outside noise from ex-players is hard to deal with because "they've got success behind them, they've got trophies" and "they've got their medals on the table," and urged current players to "get your head around it, learn how you're going to deal with it, and embrace the challenge."
