David Furnish calls alleged hacks of him and Elton John 'an abomination'
David Furnish told the high court it was "an abomination" that the publisher was able to produce what he called "narrow-minded" stories about him and his husband, Elton John, using information allegedly secured by unlawful means. In a written submission he said he and John had been "violated" after being told private detectives had intercepted phone calls and personal details.
Furnish said he initially assumed the stories came from leaks until the actor Elizabeth Hurley contacted them in February 2021 with allegations that a private investigator had admitted intercepting and recording live telephone conversations at their Windsor home.
He said they would not have known the law had been broken or that their private home and lives had been barged into without that call. Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL) denies the allegations.
