Deezer offers AI-music detection tool to rival streaming platforms
Deezer announced Thursday it is making its AI detection tool available to other streaming platforms; the tool automatically tags fully AI-generated music, removes such tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations, demonetizes them and excludes them from the royalty pool, the company said.
Deezer introduced the detector last year and told TechCrunch it now receives about 60,000 AI tracks per day, totaling 13.4 million AI-detected songs. The company reported that 85% of streams from fully AI-generated tracks are deemed fraudulent and said the tool can identify AI-generated tracks from major generative models like Suno and Udio.
A company spokesperson told TechCrunch the tool’s accuracy is 99.8%. The company says the move aims to address the rise of AI and fraudulent streams, promote transparency within the music industry and help ensure human artists and songwriters get recognition and fair compensation.
Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said there has been "great interest" in the tool and that several companies have "already performed successful tests." One tester is Sacem, the French management company representing more than 300,000 music creators and publishers. The announcement comes amid wider concern about AI and streaming fraud.
