Survey: Many Switch 2 buyers still own game key cards, Deku Deals says
Despite vocal backlash, a new Deku Deals blog post suggests Switch 2 game key cards are still selling: of 1,070 Deku Deals users who added one or more third‑party physical releases, 735 own one or more Game‑Key Card titles, the site wrote this week. Critics have called game key cards a deflating aspect of the Switch 2 launch because they don’t contain the actual game data, and many fans who buy physical copies do so for collecting or preservation.
At the same time, the majority of Switch 2 physical games are game key cards, so buyers who purchase a lot of physical releases are likely to end up with them by default. Deku Deals also listed the most popular Switch 2 games among its users and noted that six of them are game key card releases.
The titles named were: Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, Hades II, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Star Wars Outlaws Gold Edition, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Street Fighter 6 Years 1‑2 Fighters Edition, Persona 3 Reload, and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar.
Part of the push toward key cards came from early limits on cartridge sizes: at launch companies reportedly only had access to 64GB card sizes, and the added expense pushed many publishers toward game key cards.
