Cbssports reports Derrick Rose's No. 1 jersey will forever hang from the rafters at the United Center in Chicago after the Bulls beat the Boston Celtics 114-111 Saturday night and held a postgame retirement ceremony. The lavish event placed Rose's banner beside those of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen and included video tributes from both.

Many former teammates attended, including Joakim Noah, Luol Deng and Taj Gibson, and former coach Tom Thibodeau delivered a speech saying the next stop is the Hall of Fame. Rose, a three-time All-Star (all with the Bulls), the 2009 Rookie of the Year and the youngest MVP in league history at 22, spent a 15-year NBA career that included stops in New York, Minnesota, Detroit, Cleveland and Memphis.

Rose repeatedly framed the night as bigger than himself — saying "This journey was never about me" and crediting his mother Brenda, teammates, his wife and children — and revisited the 2012 ACL injury during his remarks, which he described as part of the path that led him back to this moment.
