Gamesradar reports the developer has stopped development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, which had been leading a lineup of six canceled games at Ubisoft.

The internal studio posted on X/Twitter: "We want to share this with you directly," and added, "We've made the difficult decision to stop development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. We know this is deeply disappointing. The game carries enormous meaning for fans and for the teams who worked on it." The remake had been set for a 2026 launch; it was announced in 2020, initially due in 2021 before immediate criticism of its graphics, severe delays, and an internal reboot in 2023 amid apparent staff changes. As recently as last summer the team said it was "still deep in the game – exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose," which, even then, didn't sound like particularly concrete progress for a game five years in the making.

The studio reiterated the cancellation and commiserated with disappointed players in its statement.
