Devil Daggers' lo-fi survival still memorable a decade on — Pcgamer

A decade ago many colleagues were hooked on Devil Daggers, a lo-fi survival FPS whose grimy low-poly art anticipated the early 3D nostalgia wave.

The game is simple: you stand in a flat, featureless arena and fend off increasingly nasty waves of eldritch foes with magical daggers. The objective is to stay alive for as long as possible.

That description understates how addictive it can be. Chris Thursten called it his favourite game of 2016: "It's Pure Quake, basically," he wrote. "It is to Quake what the blue meth in Breaking Bad is to regular meth, except it's real."

Shaun Prescott, an Australian editor with more than ten years' experience covering the games industry, lists interests including indie games, obscure Metroidvanias, speedrunning, experimental games and FPSs.
