Doomsday trailer leak shows classic X-Men costumes and raises MCU reboot questions
Movieweb reports that a leaked X-Men–focused trailer for Avengers: Doomsday shows James Marsden's Cyclops wearing a blue costume drawn from the 1990s Jim Lee design, after the X-Men were confirmed to appear in the film during a March 2025 stream that revealed seven members of the 20th Century Fox era cast.
The leak revives a long-running debate over whether returning X-Men would wear the franchise's black leather looks or comic-accurate costumes. The outlet says Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige appears to be giving the original cast a chance to "do it right" by dressing them in iconic, comic-accurate uniforms, a move that taps into fan nostalgia shown in recent projects like Deadpool & Wolverine.
That choice, however, creates a dilemma for the MCU's planned X-Men reboot: if the prior cinematic versions already wear comic-accurate suits, the new MCU team—said to be in active development and expected to follow Avengers: Secret Wars—could lose some of its novelty. The report notes Marvel could still differentiate the reboot by drawing on other comic-era looks, but finding a distinctive hook remains the core creative challenge moving forward.
