Dortmund sign 17-year-old left-back Kaua Prates from Cruzeiro for €12m

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of 17-year-old left-back Kaua Prates from Cruzeiro in a deal worth €12m. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the agreement includes a €7m initial fee plus €5m in performance-related add-ons, and that Prates has been given a long-term contract running until the summer of 2031; paperwork and medicals were completed on Tuesday.

FIFA rules prevent Prates moving to Germany until he turns 18 in August, so the agreement allows him to remain in Brazil to continue his development. The transfer is scheduled for the summer, with Prates staying at Cruzeiro for the first half of the 2026 Brazilian season before joining Dortmund for the 2026-27 pre-season.

Despite his age, Prates has already made an impact at senior level, recording 17 senior appearances and scoring last year. He has started three of the five matches he has featured in so far this term, and is noted for his comfort on the ball, tactical discipline, pace in recovery and attacking threat down the flank.
