Dungeons & Dragons Animated Adventures gets deluxe hardcover edition
IDW’s comic adaptation of the 1983–85 Dungeons & Dragons cartoon will be collected in a deluxe hardcover this summer. The Dungeons & Dragons: Animated Adventures Library Edition gathers three Saturday Morning Adventures four-issue miniseries that are presented as lost episodes of the show.
The comics are written by David M. Booher and Sam Maggs, with art by George Kambadais and Jack Lawrence. Unlike the original cartoon’s generic fantasy setting, these stories take place in the Forgotten Realms campaign world and revisit the six young heroes who became Hank the Ranger, Eric the Cavalier, Diana the Acrobat, Presto the Magician, Sheila the Thief, and Bobby the Barbarian.
Those characters use magic items from the Dungeon Master to assume D&D class powers, and the book leans into classic elements from the series — including Bobby’s pet baby unicorn, Uni. In the collected tales they explore a monastery in Waterdeep, battle pirates on the Sword Coast, and encounter dragons during what was meant to be a relaxing trip to the beach.
