Collider reports that Episode 2, "Hard Salt Beef," of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows hedge knight Ser Dunk the Tall as he bets everything on success in a tourney on the HBO Game of Thrones prequel.

Denied formal entry because no lord will vouch for his former master Ser Arlan of Pennytree, Dunk leans on his squire Egg and ultimately gains Prince Baelor Targaryen’s recognition, which allows him to join the lists but requires a personal sigil. The episode introduces multiple Targaryen princes and two Kingsguard, shows Dunk commissioning a painted shield, selling a horse to pay for armor after Steely Pate takes Arlan’s old mail as metal, and closes with a chaotic joust that underscores how outmatched Dunk and small Egg feel.

The episode moves slowly through Dunk’s preparations despite a lively final joust, and with four episodes remaining the season needs more momentum, the review says. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is streaming on HBO Max with new episodes on Sundays.
