Early birds, big spenders, hidden gems: January transfer window trends
Theguardian reports that Eintracht Frankfurt completed several signings before the window opened, announcing Younes Ebnoutalib and Keita Kosugi for a reported combined £13m and adding Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Love Arrhov so they had five new names in the squad for their first game after the winter break.
Ebnoutalib scored in the 3-3 draw with Borussia Dortmund, Kalimuendo assisted that goal and has since scored against Bremen and Hoffenheim, while Amaimouni-Echghouyabe opened his account the following week; Frankfurt nonetheless won none of those matches. Deadline day produced a late flurry of moves, including Crystal Palace’s club-record £43m signing of Jørgen Strand Larsen and Liverpool’s announcement of a £60m capture of Jérémy Jacquet for next season, while Atlético Madrid spent around £47m on three signings.
