Ari Aster’s Eddington Finds Streaming Audience After Box Office Flop
Eddington, written and directed by Ari Aster, is a contemporary Western starring Pedro Pascal alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone. Set in May 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film centers on a standoff between a small-town sheriff and a mayor that sparks a powder keg.
A24 spent $25 million producing Eddington, but it grossed only $13 million at the box office. It was one of the studio’s biggest misfires last year, both critically and financially.
The film is now streaming on HBO Max worldwide and has reached the global top 10 in more than 15 countries. It has finally found an audience despite its poor theatrical return.
A Western comedy-horror running 149 minutes, Eddington follows how the intensified standoff fractures local unity, with residents taking sides and long-standing relationships strained.
