Edifier QR65: sleek desktop speakers that look great and sound strong

The Edifier QR65 desktop speakers are available in black or white for $369. Their sleek, modern design includes LED lights outlining the speaker baffle and a mirror behind the baffle that gives the lights a layered illusion. Eleven preset light modes are adjustable with a knob on the right speaker, and there are additional light settings in the Edifier Connex app.

Inside, the QR65 use 1.25-inch silk dome tweeters and 2.75-inch drivers with aluminum diaphragms. They are active monitors with internal amplifiers, so they can deliver quality sound directly from a smartphone or laptop, and they support Bluetooth 5.3 with a stable wireless connection.

Their sound leans bass-forward and can teeter between too-boomy and acceptable, yet vocals and harmonies remain audible and the QR65 comes across as more transparent and crisper than many traditional Bluetooth speakers. Connecting via RCA or USB enables hi-res audio up to 24-bit/96kHz, and a rear sub-out is provided, though a subwoofer may be overkill given the speakers' strong bass.
