Edu Gaspar under pressure at Nottingham Forest after transfer and managerial turmoil
Goal reports Edu Gaspar is reportedly fighting to save his job at Nottingham Forest just months into his £3 million-a-year contract, amid intense scrutiny from owner Evangelos Marinakis after a breakdown with former boss Nuno Espirito Santo and a troubled transfer strategy. The Telegraph, cited in the report, says the relationship between Edu and Espirito Santo collapsed early in the season and the pair were "barely on speaking terms," a schism now linked to Nuno’s dismissal after three games.
The club sit 17th and have already sacked two managers while Marinakis is said to be unimpressed with the return on his investment. Transfer decisions are singled out: Edu is believed to have pushed for Douglas Luiz and Omari Hutchinson, with Hutchinson a club-record £37.5m signing who made just 10 minutes across two substitute appearances and later said "Nuno didn’t speak to me." Douglas Luiz has struggled for fitness and carries a mandatory purchase clause of more than £20m if he reaches 15 league appearances of over 45 minutes.
Managerial chaos has continued — Ange Postecoglou was hired and swiftly fired before Sean Dyche took over, yet Forest are on a run of four successive defeats. The club recently agreed to loan Arnaud Kalimuendo, signed for £26m, to Eintracht Frankfurt while still competing in the Europa League.
