Movieweb reports director Eli Roth said scheduling has prevented substantial momentum on the Thanksgiving 2 sequel since it was announced. Speaking with Variety, Roth confirmed: "Everybody wants to do it. I'm gonna have it locked and loaded, and we'll find a time when we’re all available ... We'll just go back for a few weeks and have fun."

Roth attributed the delays to the cast's busy schedules, noting that Addison Rae is focused on her musical career and Milo Manheim has been cast in the live-action Tangled adaptation. Original star Nell Verlaque is also expected to return. The 2023 Thanksgiving film began as Roth's 2007 fake trailer and was a moderate success, sitting at 83% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and taking in $46+ million on a reported $15 million budget.

Roth said that when the timing is right it should be straightforward to make the sequel, but he did not give a timeline. The filmmaker framed the wait as a matter of aligning availability, and while fans may be frustrated, bringing back the original cast appears to be a priority.
