Embark plans changes to Arc Raiders' account‑wiping Expeditions

One of Arc Raiders' most contentious features is the Expedition: an opt-in seasonal wipe that lets players effectively delete their accounts and restart every two months or so. In return are a few semi-permanent boosts—extra stash space, perk points—and unique cosmetics to mark the reset.

Participation requires collecting and 'donating' a long list of items, and the loop also resets quest progress and deletes craftable blueprints, making it a grind many players find frustrating. Virgil Watkins, who joined Embark Studios as a senior technical designer in October 2021 and became Arc Raiders' design director in February 2022, describes the system as “a bit of an experiment.” He says the team did not want to force resets on everyone, and is now asking how to make the Expedition interesting enough for the largest number of players to participate.

Embark is rethinking how currency and rewards feed into Expeditions.
