Nytimes reports that Justice Department files released in connection with Jeffrey Epstein include hundreds of references to luxury brands and show he frequently sent designer gifts to ingratiate himself with famous friends and reward those in his orbit. The files cite specific items: an XXL cashmere sweater for Noam Chomsky, a Goyard purse for Peggy Siegal, a Rolex for a redacted recipient and a black Prada tote purchased for Masha Drokova after an August 2017 instruction to “get Prada Handbag.” Other entries document purchases such as 31 Zimmerli Sea Island cotton boxer shorts and shirts for Woody Allen totaling $9,858, customized monogrammed sweatshirts for acquaintances including Peter Thiel, Kathryn Ruemmler and Stephen K.

Bannon, and Apple Watches with Hermès bands bought during the 2018 holiday season. The emails show mixed responses: some recipients thanked him and remained in contact despite his status as a registered sex offender, while others found gifts banal or awkward.
