Eric McCormack credited his ex-wife, Janet Leigh Holden, for balancing his "flaky actorness with real groundedness" while raising their son, Finnigan, 23, People reports. The father and son appear together in the season premiere of NBC's The Hunting Party.

Eric, 62, said, "Well, certainly his mom balances my flaky actorness with real groundedness, and I think he always got to see both examples," and added that, despite an L.A. life, they "have always had a strong Canadian life in Vancouver, but also in Edmonton, Toronto," which gave Finnigan "a real sense that there's a bigger world out there outside of what I did." Eric and Holden married in August 1997 and welcomed Finnigan in 2002; Holden filed for divorce in November 2023 citing "irreconcilable differences," and the couple settled the divorce outside of court.

The father-son duo play the younger and older versions of serial killer Ron Simms in the season premiere, and though they did not share the same scene they worked to align their portrayals. Finnigan has acted in high school and college and said performing with his dad was "an entirely new experience," while Eric described his proudest part of parenthood as "seeing him grow up." The Hunting Party season 2 premiered on NBC on Thursday, Jan. 8.
