Ethan Nwaneri poised for boost as Habib Beye replaces De Zerbi at Marseille
Ethan Nwaneri’s loan spell at Marseille has been given a timely boost with the appointment of Habib Beye as Roberto De Zerbi's successor. De Zerbi had been the primary champion of the move, leaving the teenager in doubt after the Italian's sudden departure. The club also endured a chaotic period behind the scenes that saw sporting director Medhi Benatia leave and return within 48 hours.
Beye returns to the Stade Velodrome as a familiar face, having represented Marseille as a player. He was dismissed by Rennes last week after a run of four straight losses, but his wider record includes guiding Rennes to eight wins in nine games from November into this year.
Beye’s tactical preference for a back five or three-man defence — and a 3-4-2-1 shape — is expected to create a specialised role for creative midfielders and could suit Nwaneri.
