Experts’ tips to look less tired amid UK sleep crisis
According to new research, the UK’s sleep crisis is at a peak: the average person in Britain loses the equivalent of 18 days of sleep every year, while one in four survive on just one hour’s rest a night. A beauty editor of more than 15 years offers science-backed tips and insider hacks to help you look less tired even when exhausted.
Skincare rituals to revive the face include facial massage to boost drainage and circulation — after cleansing, glide palms from the centre of the face outwards, then down to the collarbones, keep the lips in an ‘O’ and pat cheeks five to 10 times, then blink quickly and slowly, alternating 10 to 20 times, Lana Buckley says.
Eye creams with caffeine and products such as Innbeauty Project’s Bright & Tight Dark Circle Firming Eye Cream followed by L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Eye Bag Instant Eraser are recommended to brighten and de-puff, while mild exfoliating acids (lactic or mandelic) can increase epidermal turnover, Dr Edel Woods says.
Hydration is key too; facialist Sarah Chapman advises keeping sheet masks in the fridge to rehydrate skin with hyaluronic acid and reduce puffiness. Makeup and hair hacks include starting with a pearlised primer such as Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonderglow, skipping heavy foundation in favour of a tinted moisturiser and using concealer only where needed.
